The Plot: The story of Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, whose life is turned upside down when he is implicated in the death of his former patient, model, and reality TV star, Anna Nicole Smith.

The Real Life Truth
The film draws inspiration from the compelling real-life memoir of Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, which is titled “Trust Me, I’m a Doctor: My Life Before and After Anna Nicole Smith.” Dr. Kapoor served as the personal physician to the iconic model and reality television star, Anna Nicole Smith. Tragically, after her overdose death in 2007, Dr. Kapoor found himself at the center of a storm, facing intense scrutiny and being implicated in various investigations. He was charged with felonies in connection with a highly publicized drug conspiracy trial that captivated the media and the public alike.
A Whirlwind of Turmoil
The narrative of the film intricately weaves together the chaotic atmosphere of tabloid frenzy that surrounded the events, showcasing the relentless police raids that sought to uncover the truth, and the shocking leaks of private journals that revealed intimate details of Dr. Kapoor’s life and his relationship with Smith. As the story unfolds, viewers witness Dr. Kapoor’s arduous legal battle to exonerate himself, a journey that is made all the more poignant with the support of his dedicated defense attorney, Ellyn Garofalo. This dramatization not only highlights the personal struggles faced by Dr. Kapoor but also reflects on the broader implications of fame, addiction, and the quest for justice in a world obsessed with scandal.
The Final Judgment
Dr. Kapoor was a genuinely good and honorable man. However, once it became public knowledge that Anna had a very unstable mental condition and was consistently on medication, and that he was her primary physician at the time, he found himself in a precarious situation. The media, unfortunately, tends to sensationalize and distort the truth.
One aspect of the film that I found frustrating was the constant time loops and the back-and-forth narrative. By the time they addressed her death, there were no more flashbacks to Anna Nicole Smith’s earlier life. The film oscillated between the past and present, detailing her death and the events leading up to it, while attempting to fill in the gaps from the beginning.
While it is worth watching once, I believe this film would have been better suited for streaming rather than a theatrical release.
