“The Breadwinner” Movie Review

 The Plot: A supermom lands a Shark Tank deal, switching roles with her breadwinner husband. He struggles to adapt as a stay-at-home dad to their three daughters.

Nate: The Super …Everything???

Nate was once a devoted family man, but that changed over time. His life revolved around his job at Toyota, where he consistently ranked as the top salesman, earning coveted tickets to watch his favorite baseball team play. Despite having a wife and three daughters, he became overly reliant on his wife to manage the household. She took on all responsibilities, from cooking and cleaning to caring for the children.

When Nate was finally faced with the challenge of being an active parent, he found himself completely unprepared. He didn’t know where his daughters’ schools were located, how to do laundry, cook meals, or even fix a toaster. It was both laughable and tragic to witness a man who had allowed his wife to assume all domestic duties, effectively becoming “Ms. Everything.”

It was disheartening to see that while Nate had a successful career selling vehicles, he lacked the basic skills to maintain a household. His life was centered around work, yet he was oblivious to the everyday responsibilities that come with being a parent and partner. One can only hope that there are no men in the real world who behave as foolishly as he did in this film.

The Shark Tank Deal

When Nate’s wife, Katie, wins an incredible opportunity to become another breadwinner in the household, it becomes glaringly obvious that Nate is completely unprepared for parenting. Even on national television, the Shark Tank team pointed this out simply by observing him come out on stage eating a donut. When Katie asked him if he was sure he could manage the house and kids, he confidently supported her, but it was clear he was deluding himself. His behavior was astonishing—he didn’t know how to do laundry, forgot when to pick his kids up from school, and lacked basic parenting skills. His sole expertise was selling vehicles, which was disappointing to witness. Deep down, Katie understood he wouldn’t be able to handle the responsibilities, yet she took him at his word, which spoke volumes about their dynamic.

Coming to Grips With Reality

Once Nate finally took a moment to reflect on his shortcomings, he made an attempt to improve his relationship with his children and wife. While I must acknowledge his effort, it was evident that his approach was misguided. Despite the film being a comedy, I sincerely hope that no one in real life is as oblivious about household management, especially when children are involved. When the truth about his parenting skills was revealed at the film’s conclusion, millions of viewers applauded him for his raw honesty and willingness to admit his faults. It truly takes a courageous person to do that, and I commend this aspect of the movie. Overall, it is an exceptionally humorous film that appeals to both children and adults alike!
