I appreciate that you connected with the film! Initially, I hesitated and passed it up, but when it premiered in theaters, I decided to watch it solely because of the Discussion Post I created when it was revealed. That was the primary reason I chose to see it, and I’m glad I did because it was truly remarkable. As many have pointed out, it’s essentially a Chinese version of Liam Neeson’s Taken.

Kenji Tanigaki delivered exactly what martial arts fans have been waiting for—an unrelenting, bone-crunching ride. Even though the dialogue was clunky and suffered from some pretty obvious overdubbing, the fight choreography was absolutely awesome.

The film radiates intense Ong-Bak and Tom-Yum-Goong vibes. It was incredible watching Xie Miao hone his inner Tony Jaa spirit, utilizing brutal, fast-paced, and grounded choreography that feels increasingly rare these days. Xie and Joe Taslim (Mortal Kombat’s Sub-Zero/Noob Saibot) make a great crime-fighting duo. Their contrasting fighting styles complement each other perfectly on screen.

The biggest letdown for me was how they utilized Jeeja Yanin, you may know her from Chocolate and Raging Phoenix. Seeing her pop up right at the beginning set an amazing tone, but having her written off after only a few minutes of screen time was a massive bummer. She would have made an incredible, over-the-top addition to that final act.

I saw the trailer a few months ago and remembered the title, but had completely forgotten it was coming out. Walking into this as an AMC Screen Unseen event turned out to be a massive win—it felt like the perfect medicine after a stressful and anxious month of May.

Yes, it was nothing but a Chinese version of "Taken." The FIRST impression that I got from it was that I had never heard of a badass ass-kicking mute! The father NEVER spoke or even uttered one single word during the entire movie!

You hit it in the first of the review another version of Taken! This one will probably fall to the bottom of the list.

This was an absolute perfect film. Definitely better than what I expected. The main actor showed that a father's love will never stop no matter what. This film was fast paced, action packed and a full throttle ride from start to finish. We need more films like this one. A 5/5 for me.

I felt the same way, and it's so OK to change your mind every once in a while—and if it were not for all the good feedback on the discussion post when this was the Unseen for June 1 and it was playing at my local theater, I opted in and am glad that I did. IF you liked Liam Neeson's "Taken", then you will LOVE this! Great storyline!
