Plot: Follows a struggling woman, Millie Calloway (Sydney Sweeney), who is happy to start over as a housemaid for an affluent, elite couple, Nina (Amanda Seyfried) & Andrew Winchester (Brandon Sklenar).
Nina & Andrew Winchester
Many people assume that being born into wealth or raised in an affluent environment ensures a life filled with richness and fulfillment. However, this perception is often superficial, as it overlooks the inner struggles and complexities that individuals may face. Take Nina and Andrew, for instance; to the outside world, their marriage seemed like a picture-perfect union—an idyllic partnership that inspired envy. Yet, beneath the surface lay a web of inconsistencies and unspoken challenges that threatened their bond. The truth is, appearances can be deceiving.

The Allure of the Winchester Mansion
The same allure that captivates admirers can also obscure their perception of reality. This tendency for outsiders to engage in gossip and make judgments based on limited information is widespread, underscoring the risks of viewing life through a restricted lens. When we observe the lives of others—whether through social media, casual conversations, or even mere observations in public spaces—without grasping the complexities of their true circumstances, we are likely to miss the deeper, often painful realities that exist beyond the polished exteriors they present.

For instance, a seemingly perfect relationship could mask underlying struggles, and a cheerful persona might conceal feelings of loneliness or anxiety. By acknowledging that people have multifaceted stories shaped by their experiences, we foster a more empathetic understanding of the human condition.

Millie Calloway’s Harboring A Deep, Dark Secret!
For those who have read the book that inspired the film, you’ll quickly recognize how closely the character of Millie mirrors her original portrayal. However, brace yourself for an ending that is not only wild and intense but shockingly brutal—it will leave your jaw on the floor! Millie is desperate to start fresh, yet a devastating truth stands in her way, and when it’s finally unveiled, it will hit you like a freight train. If you haven’t experienced the book yet, prepare for a thrilling and twisted surprise that will captivate and enthrall you!

Vanity & Perception
Andrew’s mother, Evelyn Winchester, was someone who had a strong appreciation for outward appearances and accomplishments. While her focus on looks and success was evident, it sometimes overshadowed the more meaningful aspects of life. I often thought that a dose of humility could be beneficial for her. If she were to momentarily let go of those superficial concerns, perhaps she would discover deeper connections and values beyond looks. She frequently took pride in her son’s beautiful teeth, impeccable manners, and charming smile, which reflects her desire to celebrate success. Encouraging a shift in focus could help her appreciate the qualities that truly matter.

It does sound hot! I’m game!!
Hot as in ….LOL! It has THAT I assure you!
I enjoyed the Housemaid. The movie stayed very close to the book with only a few minor changes to the script.
Agree! That ending was brutal and such a masterpiece!!!
It was just ok. I am not much of a fan of these type of movies.
What specific genre of movies are you referring to? Are you discussing psychological thrillers?
Never read or heard of the novel, but we sure enjoyed it… and they twist. This was like “The Hand the Rocks the Cradle” and “Single White Female.” I ❤️ these types of flicks!
Absolutely —those two titles are true classics, and I’ve experienced both in their various forms! Having read the book, I was well aware that the movie diverged significantly from the source material, particularly in the ending. Despite that, this film masterfully capped off 2025. In my view, it leaned more towards erotica than anything else, making it a striking and memorable experience!
I read the book, loved it, and loved the movie. I brought my 21 year old son to see it. He hadn’t read the book. We both thought the movie was great. He wasn’t ready for the twists and turns the movie took. The movie did not disappoint.
I have to admit, I was fully braced for the shocking revelations, the unexpected twists, and the intense turns, especially since I had read the book just like you. However, the ending was the sole aspect that changed, and it surprisingly felt like the perfect conclusion to the entire story. I must say, though, when the “teeth extraction” scene came up, I had to close my eyes—there was absolutely no way I could bear to watch that! LOL.
I didn’t read the book and went in without knowing what to expect. Some of the violence was hard to watch, but I must admit that I liked the twists and turns. I won’t read the book and wouldn’t watch it again, but overall I enjoyed it.
Wow, so it sounds like you won’t be checking out the sequel that just got greenlit? I completely agree—some of the violence in the original was shockingly brutal and incredibly hard to watch. I even found myself closing my eyes at times, so you’re definitely not alone in that sentiment!
I’ll consider checking out the sequel when it comes out – will depend a lot on the plot!
Well if they green -lit a sequel two weeks after – it showed promise, that is for sure!
