The Plot: Jasmine loves Wesley, and their wedding is near — but her stern father and others disapprove, prompting couples around them to question their own “perfect” marriages.
Jasmine & Wesley’s Journey Captivates Like Their Parents
Jasmine is the daughter of Marcus and Angela, and she is set to marry Wesley, a new character introduced in the film. Wesley’s mother is Roselyn, portrayed by Taraji P. Henson, who, in a way, replaced Janet Jackson’s character in this film, though references to her character as Dr. Patricia Agnew acknowledge her existence in the 2 prior films. The film references Pat, acknowledging her significant role in Perry’s previous two films, even though she does not appear in this sequel.
As the wedding approaches, an incident occurs that prompts Sheila to intervene and reach out to Diane for further investigation. Sheila recognizes parallels between her own relationship with Mike and the situation involving Jasmine and Wesley. Interestingly, the events that unfolded in the first film with Marcus and Angela mirror what Jasmine and Wesley are experiencing. The filmmakers cleverly include a flashback of that original scene, allowing viewers to see the similarities between the two couples’ journeys.
Beneath the Surface, Perfection is an Illusion
All three couples had to confront their past and share with their children the hardships and challenges they faced and overcame to become the parents their kids admire today. They wanted to ensure their children do not repeat the same mistakes of betrayal, cheating, deception, and hiding that they themselves had experienced. This film poignantly illustrates that when parents express a desire for their children to have a better life—better than their own—they genuinely mean it.
It took significant effort for these three couples to help their children understand that they are not perfect and that they have made mistakes. Some secrets from their past are burdens they will carry to their graves, but they chose to reveal the real issues and mistrust they encountered. This openness allowed their children to see that no one and no marriage is flawless, including Jasmine and Wesley’s relationship.
Promoting the Values of Love, Integrity, and Trustworthiness
The couples emphasized the importance of working alongside their children, reassuring them that they could always turn to their parents and their parents’ friends for support. They instilled in their children the belief that they could weather any storm together. The younger generation is fortunate to have what their parents lacked—a support system, a friend, a guide, and someone experienced to navigate life’s challenges. This network provides them with the opportunity to confide in others when necessary, ensuring they are not alone in their struggles.

Didn’t even know that they made a sequel till you told me! Tyler Perry has some heartfelt movies!
He does – I do not support him, but the actors, yes!
Sounds interesting that I’ll probably pass. It seems like a movie that’s been done over and over. But I do love the actors. Will wait for it come to Netflix.
It had been done before: Why Did I Get Married; then Why Did I Get Married Too (the one where I sent u the clip about Janet going off with the golf club due to Mikey’s death) ; and this third one which is on NETFLIX now!
Let’s see how this one plays out…
Yes, let’s …
I will watch it but not at the moment. I’m the type that’ll wait to watch something once the hype is over. I saw your reply on someone else’s comment and wanted to know why you don’t support Tyler Perry?
Gotcha.
