The Plot: A former soldier is thrown into a brutal race against time when a critical medical delivery makes him the target of a ruthless cartel.

Rodrigo Santoro portrays the son of a Colombian cartel leader, who happens to be his very own mother, who finds herself in a desperate race against time to secure a liver for herself to save her life and she tasks her son to do whatever is possible to retrieve the liver meant for a dying little girl for herself. The little girl has only 24 hours left to receive the transplant that could save her life, as she possesses a rare blood type and is in urgent need of a donor. This film evokes memories of numerous other narratives where cartels intervene with ruthless efficiency, resorting to violence, torture, and murder to ensure the survival of their own members.
The portrayal of Colombians and drug cartels in this film reflects the grim realities often reported in the news. It is profoundly tragic to witness a life consumed by violence, where individuals resort to heinous acts to fulfill their own desires. While one might argue that such heartless killers lack compassion, it is essential to recognize that they are driven by a twisted sense of loyalty to save lives they care about, albeit through immoral means.
As painful as it is to acknowledge, this perspective sheds light on the complexities of their motivations. The legal consequences of their actions do not deter them; they will go to any lengths, including bribery, torture, murder, and blackmail, to achieve their goals. Fear of death or the repercussions of their actions does not faze them, making their existence even more horrifying. The film captures this disturbing reality, leaving viewers to grapple with the moral ambiguities surrounding such characters.
“Surprise Encounter with Ben Bishop!”
Owen Wilson has always been a comedian at heart, and regardless of the film he stars in, he finds a way to infuse humor into his roles. This film is no exception. Despite its raw, emotional, and often heartbreaking narrative, Wilson manages to introduce moments of levity and calmness amidst the dire circumstances faced by his characters, Ben and Hank, as they strive to save a young girl’s life while evading a cartel intent on acquiring an organ that is not theirs to take.
It’s fascinating how even within specific genres, including horror, a simple facial expression or a well-timed quip can elicit laughter from the audience. I believe that incorporating comedy into any film genre is a significant advantage; it alleviates the tension and anxiety that can build up when viewers are deeply engrossed in a story. Both Owen and Hank deliver this relief, particularly through the character of the parakeet named Spirit, who adds a unique charm to the film.
Witnessing the chemistry between these two actors in this movie showcases brilliant casting. Their performances not only highlight the gravity of the situation but also remind us of the importance of humor, even in the darkest of times. In my candid opinion, their collaboration is a testament to the art of balancing drama with comedic relief, making the film a memorable experience.
The Shocking Turn of Events in Runner
The film is filled with shocking twists and turns that keep you on your toes. As the story unfolds at a breakneck pace, you may find yourself trying to piece together the clues, but what you think you understand might not be accurate. The constant uncertainty about who to trust adds to the suspense, as characters you initially perceive as untrustworthy may turn out to be allies. The rapid-fire action makes it challenging to keep up and determine which characters are genuinely trustworthy.
I appreciated the adrenaline-pumping moments that kept me on the edge of my seat, but the film’s underlying message is what truly resonated with me: the importance of paying it forward. The narrative illustrates the lengths to which good Samaritans will go to save lives, whether it’s a parent fighting for their child’s survival or a stranger rushing to help in a chaotic situation. This theme is incredibly inspiring, showcasing the selflessness of individuals who risk their own safety for the greater good.
While I found the ending somewhat disappointing, I believe this film is a must-see in theaters if you have the chance. The experience of watching it on the big screen amplifies the intensity and emotional impact of the story.

Absolutely a blast of a film. Casting was great, the story was great, suspense was there. Overall, a very well-done movie. Would also give it 5/5
GREAT brothers think alike!
I haven’t seen it yet, but the premise hits close to home. I recently lost a great-nephew to liver failure. He was too sick for a transplant, but the thought that there are people in the world who would let a small child die is disturbing. I do want to see it.
Yeah, that resonates deeply with you, quite literally. Prepare yourself — I assure you, it’s not overly difficult to watch, especially considering how much humor Owen Wilson brings to the film. His comedic timing and lighthearted moments are likely intended to soften the impact of the more challenging scenes we encounter. In my perspective, this balance works remarkably well, culminating in a satisfying conclusion for the two main characters. The film navigates through emotional highs and lows, yet ultimately leaves the audience with a sense of hope and resolution, making it a worthwhile viewing experience.
