The Plot: Bela, an 8-year-old girl living in a home with marital problems, confronts a sinister entity that comes out of her closet. The presence of who she calls “Other Mommy” becomes increasingly threatening to her and her family.
What Lurks Behind the Closet? Unmasking “The Other Mommy”!
While I can appreciate a good horror film, this one really fell short in a crucial aspect—it wasn’t truly a horror film. The entity and its actions were unsettling, but the concept was the only genuinely frightening element. I went in with medium to high expectations, but I found myself grappling with numerous unanswered questions. For instance, who was the entity that Bela referred to as “Other Mommy”? Where did it come from? How could it transform into others? Was it capable of possessing people? What was its motivation for wanting to infiltrate Bela or other children’s hearts? None of these questions were addressed, and it was evident that this film did not have a high budget.
Scattered and Chaotic
The film’s attempt to merge horror with humor was ambitious, yet it frequently felt as though the comedic aspects eclipsed the intended tension. Although I found some of the lighter moments enjoyable, I was left yearning for a more powerful climax and a clearer narrative trajectory. The unresolved plot threads contributed to a sense of disorientation, as I had anticipated a more cohesive storyline that would intricately weave all elements together.
The Battle of the Mommies: A Tale of Two Parental Figures
Jessica Chastain delivered a commendable performance, skillfully embodying two characters, or even multiple personas simultaneously. However, even in her portrayal of the “real Mommy,” she often lacked the visual and behavioral authenticity expected of the role. In contrast, when she stepped into the shoes of the “Other Mommy,” she truly excelled, bringing a captivating energy to that character that resonated deeply with me.

I’m looking forward to it, but the wife is not. Help me convince her! 😂
Simple. Just tell her if she doesn’t go that “this Daddy” will take his “other Mommy!” Try that! 👍
I thought it was really good. Reminded me of Imaginary. The opening scene about demons and gods is what you have to pay attention to, to understand the movie. I enjoyed the storyline and it had several jump scenes with build up to them.
I mean, I liked it too as well, but not like I was expecting to.
Definitly fell short of expectations for us too, although they did address what Other Mommy was… Jokester demon that tricks by lying. Although it was very brief too I wish they would have dug a little deeper.
I agree; like for real!
