Let’s Keep This “In The Further,” Shall We?
This sixth installment in the franchise fails to deliver the quality and thought-provoking elements that characterized its predecessors. The filmmakers should reconsider continuing this series, as it has lost its ability to genuinely scare and entertain audiences. I experienced not a single jump scare, and the creepy figures lurking around corners did not elicit any fear. The film lacked any real suspense or horror, despite its strong promotional campaign aimed at achieving impressive box office results. Unfortunately, it fell significantly short of expectations. I sincerely hope there are no more “Insidious” films; the first three were exceptional, and I believe the series should have concluded with “The Red Door,” leaving the door closed and the story in the past.
The Definite Return of Elyse Rainer
The actress in this franchise plays a crucial role, guiding those haunted by entities trapped in The Further. She helps them regain access to the real world or confront their darkest desires, even if it means harming someone they love. A fierce and cunning spirit, she outsmarts the demons that threaten anyone. Despite being killed in the first film, she returns as a ghost, making her the central protagonist in every installment. Her presence is vital, but after this movie, her role should come to a definitive end.
Gemma & Ingrid VS. Gemma & Maya
When the film begins, we are introduced to Gemma, a frightened young girl who is struggling to care for herself and her mother. Her mother is clearly experiencing the presence of Acolytes, supernatural beings that walk among them, which creates a strong connection to the film’s protagonist, Cyrus. Cyrus is ultimately responsible for the turmoil in Gemma’s life, as she witnesses her mother tragically take her own life.
As the story unfolds, the truth about her mother’s fate is gradually revealed. Gemma realizes that the more terrified she becomes, the stronger her connection to The Further grows, enhancing her powers. With the guidance and support of Elsie, a significant character in the film, Gemma comes to profound realizations about her daughter, Maya, and their intertwined destinies.
The film’s conclusion effectively ties up the narrative threads, providing clarity about the events that transpired at the beginning. However, the overall experience of the movie feels disjointed, oscillating between ghostly realms and the real world. Viewers are often left questioning whether Gemma is awake or dreaming, which can be overwhelming.
While the ending brings resolution, much of the film’s middle section feels aimless. Although it is not a complete waste of time, I personally found little value in it, as it lacked a cohesive direction and purpose.
Thanks for the heads up, I agree with you. You have a great intuition when it comes to these franchises. I think 1 trilogy for this saga was good enough.

I have to disagree as usual, LOL!. I’m not a fan of the previous Insidious movies, but I liked this one better. I hated the ridiculous-looking red man demon in the previous movies. He’s right up there with Annabelle. Neither was scary. The demon cult leader Cyrus in this movie was way better, and I thought the old people creeping around were definitely creepy. I think people should see it and decide for themselves. Just my opinion. I’d never not see a movie because someone didn’t like it. Not trying to be mean. Just my opinion.

I actually enjoyed it…did I love it??? No…but I found it to be a good one time watch. And of course I love Lin Shaye’s name in the movies. LOL!!! 🤣🤣😀😀

You’d swear I’ve been stuck in the Further having missed film 4 and 5 of the franchise… recalling the first 3 installments which delighted me in the darkest ‘wtf’ way leaves me keenly interested in the conflicting views of Debbie and yourself, Travis. I had a feeling the quality of the films I loved would be diminished in novelty, but I will hold out hope that the previous material’s rich foundation would fertilize something… more. I enjoyed this movie. Also have to say this is probably one of the better horror films this year. But I don’t see where they can take this franchise any further now. To keep adding on after this is just going to water it down.
That is where we differ again, my dear boy—this movie was not engaging or enjoyable for me; in fact, it was a one-time watch. They should have stopped at the red door. However, I agree with you when you say that they will damage the insidious reputation if they make another one. They need to box it up and ship it off to the Further and keep it locked away.
