As soon as I saw the trailer for this film, I was reminded of several other movies that share similar themes, such as Gravity, Interstellar, and The Martian. However, what stands out to me the most is the portrayal of human nature, which can often be rude and opportunistic, much like the characters we encounter in the vastness of space. It seems that no matter where we are, we cannot escape the complexities of human egos and motivations.

Watching the climax of this film was particularly challenging for me, especially regarding the character Eva and her actions towards Ryland. Her choices felt unconscionable, immoral, and even criminal, and I found it difficult to witness such behavior on screen. The narrative suggests that her actions were for the benefit of all humankind, yet it raises the question of whether the ends truly justify the means.

Eva Looking Out For …

Eva’s decisions, presented under the guise of altruism, are clearly motivated by self-interest and create a negative perception. Her assertions of working for the collective benefit lack credibility and seem to serve merely as a superficial justification for her actions. The evident lack of sincerity in her reasoning cannot be ignored. The way she rationalized her behavior is not only shocking but also raises significant ethical concerns, as it challenges the very foundation of moral integrity in her choices.

Rocky

The introduction of Rocky profoundly resonated with me, highlighting a common sentiment about animals: they often exhibit a loyalty that surpasses that of humans and can truly become our best friends or saviors. In the film, Rocky embodies this notion for Ryland Grace, serving as a reminder that sometimes the most unexpected beings can play pivotal roles in our lives. It strikes me as particularly poignant that in Hollywood narratives, the character or creature we least anticipate to be our savior often turns out to be the one that surprises us the most.

This theme reminds me of the 2025 film Jurassic World: REBIRTH, where Isabella befriends a hybrid dinosaur named Delores, who ultimately becomes their savior. This narrative reinforces the idea that, regardless of size or species, both animals and humans possess the potential to make a profound impact on our lives. It challenges us to reconsider our perceptions of loyalty and companionship, illustrating that true connections can arise in the most unlikely circumstances.
