The Plot: The young daughter of a journalist disappears into the desert without a trace. Eight years later, the broken family is shocked when she is returned to them, as what should be a joyful reunion turns into a living nightmare.
The Possession …
I truly appreciated the film’s overall premise. It was exceptionally well-crafted and executed, if I may say so. The film’s beginning effectively sets the stage for the unfolding events that follow, particularly years later, after the disappearance and kidnapping of Katie. What she endured was profoundly realistic and serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences when parents fail to maintain a vigilant and protective watch over their children. It illustrates the dangers that can arise when their attention is diverted, even for just a moment. Parents must ensure that their young children are never out of sight, regardless of the circumstances!
Katie’s Home … Or Is She?
It’s one thing to have your daughter back safe and sound, but seeing her appearance and the concern she has for herself is troubling. Personally speaking, I can’t help but think she won’t recover in my home. Despite being my daughter, the doctors have informed us that she is in a complete catatonic state. We are unaware of the extent of her injuries or where she has been for the past eight years. There is absolutely no way I would invite her back into my home, especially with my other children present.
I can love and protect her from a secure facility until we figure out if, how, or when she will get better. What kind of father would I be to allow my own child, who looks like Katie did, to return home after hearing what the doctors said? I cannot risk her potentially harming my healthy two living children. I wouldn’t think twice about it.
I can support Katie fully from afar, but protecting my two kids at home is my priority. In a way, I am also protecting Katie by keeping her in a place that can provide the care she needs—care that I know I might not be able to offer, especially since I have no answers about how she ended up this way or why.
The Nasmaranian
This is an ancient demon who destroys families and communities but is kept at bay through ritual mummification that embeds the scripture into skin. As the scripture is removed, Nasmaranian becomes more powerful. This was the entire and overall premise of the film! The skin that Katie kept ripping and peeling off her body with the ancient scribings was making something happen with the demon. It may not be very clear why this was happening, BUT I DO NOT WANT TO GIVE ANY SPECIFIC DETAILS ABOUT THIS CLIMAX IN THE FILM. But this set the premise for everything that happened in the film. In closing, I will say that I was not expecting the ending that I saw, but was very impressed by it.

Incredible movie!! Great time watching it with buddies!!!
Agree!
This reminds me of “The Curse of La Llorona”. I always love how when broken families see their loved ones again but it’s not really them anymore & they don’t care even though of the obvious supernatural tell signs lol. Then they die from whatever possesses them. They don’t listen until they die, literally.
Literally!
Guess I’m the first one to respond. I think this was a good film and not your typical action-adventure Mummy movie but more of a cross of the Conjuring meets the Evil Dead. I did read up that Lee Cronin was inspired by The Evil Dead and confirm this film is in that universe.
Yeah – I did not even know that tidbit of information!
This looked so crazy when we saw the trailer together! I can’t wait to see it and I totally had a feeling it was demon related.
And you would be right ON SPOT with that assumption and 4DX …dude, let me tell you – it was off the charts!
4DX was intense!!
Your FIRST comment! I LOVE this and YOU!!
